K-Drama Recommendation 2012

 

1. Big


18-year-old Kang Gyung-Joon's (Shin Won-Ho) spirit suddenly finds itself in the body of 30-year-old Seo Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo). Seo-Yon-Jae is a successful doctor and engaged to high school teacher Gil Da-Ran (Lee Min-Jung). Gil Da-Ran just so happens to be the teacher of 18-year-old Kang Gyung-Joon. More problems ensue when 30-year-old Seo Yoon Jae falls in love with another woman (Bae Suzy).

Da-Ran (Lee Min-Jung), currently preparing to take her teacher's exam, goes to a wedding hall to deliver a bouquet. When she hands over the bouquet Da-Ran discovers the bride is a friend of hers. Da-Ran also makes the uncomfortable realization that she wasn't invited to her friend's wedding. She stays at the wedding and gives money to the couple as a wedding gift. Da-Ran then eats lunch at the wedding alone. She then receives a phone call that the bouquet was delivered to the wrong bride and she needs to get it back. Da-Ran attempts to catch the bouquet at the end of the wedding but bumps into a man named Yoon-Jae (Gong Yoo). Due to the bump, Da-Ran falls down the stairs and is hospitalized. As fate has it, her doctor at the hospital is Yoon-Jae, the man she bumped into at the wedding. Their relationship develops into a romantic relationship and one month later they plan to get married.

Now, Da-Ran works as a temporary teacher at a high school, while preparing for her exam to become a teacher. When she goes to work on the bus, she listens to her own story that she wrote for the radio station. Da-Ran gets off the bus and a young man Gyung-Joon (Shin Won-Ho) gets off at the same bus stop. Da-Ran mistakenly believes the young man likes her. It turns out that Da-Ran took his umbrella on the bus and Gyung-Joon is a student at the high school where she works. High school student Gyung-Joon lived in the United States with his mother, but after his mother died came back to South Korea.


2. Can We Get Married?


    "Can We Get Married?" depicts marriages through various couples, including a couple who are about to get married in 100 days and their families.

3. Dream High 2


Kirin High School of Art has been taken over by Oz Entertainment because of financial bankruptcy. Oz Entertainment then transfers over its own idol stars to Kirin High to avoid a law requiring underage entertainers to study for a set time. The competition then brews between troubled students at Kirin High School of Art and then newly transferred idols from Oz Entertainment.

Shin Hae-Sung (Kang So-Ra) enters Kirin High School of Art with a high written exam score, but poor performance scores. She then meets fellow students Jin Yoo-Jin (Jinwoon) and JB (JB), who make her realize how fun music can be. Jin Yoo-Jin acted when he was a young child. Now, he is a troubled student dreaming of becoming a rock star. He attempts to cure the pain caused by his parent's divorce through music.



4. Fashion King


    "Fashion King" revolves around the world of fashion designers, from start-ups in the Dongdaemun area of Seoul to world-class designers. Young-Gul (Yoo Ah-In) makes imitation designer clothes at a small factory and sells them at Dongdaemun Market. He is in bad financial shape.

    Since Ga-Young's (Shin Se-Kyung) parents died in an accident, she is raised by Jo Soon-Hee (Jang Mi-Hie), owner and designer at Boutique Jo, which Ga-Young's parents and Jo Soon-Hee started together. Ga-Young lives and works at Boutique Jo. Ga-Young has talent as a designer. While Ga-Young works under Jo Soon-Hee, she applies to a famous design school in New York. Jo Soon-Hee then hides her acceptance letter from her and eventually kicks Ga-Young out for setting a fire at Boutique Jo, which Ga-Young had nothing to do with. Ga-Young has no place to go and spots a help-wanted ad. Ga-Young goes to a small sewing factory, which Young-Gul runs, and gets a job there.

    Due to Young-Gul's debts, he goes to Jae-Hyuk's (Lee Je-Hoon) office to borrow money. Young-Gul and Jae-Hyuk graduated from the same high school, but they hardly know each other. Jae-Hyuk is the son of a major clothing company. Young-Gul is humiliated by Jae-Hyuk at his office. When Ga-Young sees an acceptance email from the design school in New York, Young-Gul is also there. That night, Young-Gul gives her money to buy a plane ticket to New York. Finally, Ga-Young gets to go to New York, but when she gets there, the receptionist at the school tells Ga-Young that the school sent her a rejection letter. Ga-Young is dumbfounded. Meanwhile, Jae-Hyuk is sent to New York to hone his skills in scouting for the latest trends in fashion. Young-Gul sleeps with a woman, but it turns out she is the girlfriend of a loan shark. Young-Gul is then chased by the loan shark's thugs. To avoid the thugs, Young-Gul hops on a deep-sea fishing boat.


5. Full House Take 2

When Man-Ok and Tae-Ik were children, they first met at a party held by Tae-Ik's parents. Man-Ok (Hwang Jung-Eum) is now a martial arts instructor at her grandfather's institute. Yet, Man-Ok is interested in fashion and without her grandfather knowing runs an internet shopping site. One day when her grandfather goes abroad, Man-Ok displays her clothes and accessories at her grandfather's martial arts institute. She ends up selling a lot of her stock.

Meanwhile, Tae-Ik (No Min-Woo) and Gang-Whee (Park Gi-Woong) are members of "Take 1," a popular boy group duo. They act close in front of the camera, but off camera, they can't stand each other.  "Take 1" then goes to China for a concert. At their hotel, the duo has a physical confrontation over their onstage wardrobe. Gang-Whee is furious and leaves the hotel. Their concert is quickly approaching, but nobody can find Gang-Whee. Tae-Ik then decides to go on stage alone. While performing he feels something going wrong. It turns out, Geng-Whee is allergic to a particular type of fabric and he is about to collapse on stage. At this moment, Gang-Whee suddenly comes on stage and saves the moment.

After their concert, Tae-Ik becomes furious at his stylist and, in response, his stylist quits. Back in Korea, Gang-Whee goes out in disguise, but his fans recognize him and surround him. Man-Ok, who happens to be there, saves Gang-Whee. Gang-Whee promises to meet her again and buy her a meal. On the way back to her grandfather's institute, Man-Ok's motorcycle is stopped by a man. She is surprised to see that the guy is "Take 1" member Tae-Ik. They don't realize that they knew each other when they were children.


6. Gentleman's Dignity 

"Gentleman's Dignity" depicts the romantic relationship between Kim Do-Jin (Jang Dong-Gun), an architect with a scathing tongue, and strict high school teacher Seo Yi-Soo (Kim Ha-Neul), who moonlights as an umpire at amateur baseball games.

Kim Do-Jin (Jang Dong-Gun), Im Tae-San (Kim Soo-Ro), Choi Yoon (Kim Min-Jong), and Lee Jung-Rok (Lee Jong-Hyuk) are four 40-year-old men, who have been friends since they were teenagers. Kim Do-Jin and Im Tae-San run a successful architecture company. Kim Do-Jin is brutally honest, and confident, and loves his work, but because of his personality is still single.

One day, while waiting for someone, he spots a woman standing outside the cafe. Kim Do-Jin feels something for her at first sight. The woman's name is Seo Yi-Soo (Kim Ha-Neul). She is a high school teacher and umpires amateur baseball games in her free time. The next moment, Seo Yi-Soo is gone.


7. I Do, I Do

A woman is the top shoe designer at a shoe company. The woman is called "Gold Miss," because she is in her mid-30s, single, and financially successful. She mistakenly spends a drunken night with a counterfeit shoes peddler and becomes pregnant.

Ji-An (Kim Sun-A) is a successful shoe designer and a director at a high-end shoe company. Even though Ji-An is in her late 30's, she isn't interested in marriage. The only thing Ji-An cares about is shoes and her job. Meanwhile, 20-something-year-old Tae-Gang (Lee Jang-Woo) dreams of becoming rich, but for now, he works with his dad making imitation high-end shoes.

While Ji-An attends her father's 70th birthday party, she receives a phone call that something is wrong with the prep work for a fashion show. Ji-An leaves the party and rushes to the fashion show, but on her way there she runs into a motorcycle driven by Tae-Gang. They have an argument over who caused the accident, but, finally, Ji-An offers to pay for the minor damages on his motorcycle if he gives her a lift to the fashion show. Tae-Gang accepts and Ji-An makes it to the show and fixes the problem.


8. I Miss You


    15-year-old  Soo-Yeon (Kim So-Hyun) is a victim of bullying at school. They target her because her father is a murderer. Soo-Yeon has an ally in Jung-Woo (Yeo Jin-Ku), who always protects her from bullies. Soo-Yeon and Jung-Woo are in love, but due to an unexpected accident, they become separated. Now as adults, they meet again through destiny.

    Jung-Woo (Park Yoo-Chun) is now a detective and his first love has always remained in the back of his mind. Soo-Yeon (Yoon Eun-Hye) is now a rookie fashion designer who tries to have a bright personality but still carries emotional scars inside of her. Hyung-Joon (Yoo Seung-Ho) is Soo-Yeon's lover, who appears warm and nice, but he will try to take vengeance upon Jung-Woo.


9. Reply 1997 


    Set in the 1990s,  "Reply 1997" follows female high school student Shi-Won (Jung Eun-Ji), who idolizes boyband H.O.T and her 5 high school friends.

10. Rooftop Prince


After the death of the Crown Prince Lee Kak's wife, the Crown Prince transports 300 years into the future and arrives in 21st-century Seoul, South Korea with his retainers. In present-day Seoul, the Crown Prince meets Joo Se-Na, who has an uncanny resemblance to his deceased Princess.

Past 

Lee Kak (later played by Micky Yoochun) is the Crown Prince. When he is ready to marry, Lee Kak wants to marry a beautiful woman. Boo-Yong (later played by Han Ji-Min) and Hwa-Yong (later played by Jung Yoo-Mi) are sisters. Hwa-Yong, the older sister wants to marry Crown Prince Lee Kak, but her father makes it clear that younger sister Boo-Yong will marry the Crown Prince. Hwa-Yong is so upset, she uses an iron to burn Boo-Yong's face, pretending it was an accident. Now, Boo-Yong carries a big scar on her face. Eventually, older sister Hwa-Yong marries Crown Prince Lee Kak. Time passes and is now an adult. Younger sister Boo-Yong is now a smart woman, good with needlework. Older sister Hwa-Yong is uneasy that her husband, Crown Prince Lee Kak, and Boo-Young get along well. One day, Crown Prince Lee Kak wakes up in the early morning. He finds that Hwa-Yong is not next to him. He feels something strange about the situation and calls for a eunuch. At this time, a eunuch comes running to the Crown Prince and informs him that Hwa-Yong is found dead in a pond. Lee Kak suspects that his wife's death is not by accident. He puts together a team to investigate his wife's death. When the team awaits to interview a witness, a group of assassins appears and chases them. Crown Prince Lee Kak and his men are chased to the edge of a cliff. The group jumps off the cliff.

Present Day

When Park Ha (later played by Han Ji-Min) was young, her father remarried and Park Ha gained an older step-sister Se-Na (later played by Jung Yoo-Mi). When their parents left for work, older step-sister Se-na despised having to take care of her younger sister. One day, while younger sister Park Ha sleeps inside a truck, the truck suddenly departs. Even though Se-Na sees the truck leaving, she turns around and pretends that it isn't happening. Time passes, and younger sister Park Ha is now living in America. While Park Ha sells fruits as a sidewalk vendor, Yong Tae-Yong (Micky Yoochun) sees her and feels a connection with Park Ha. Yong Tae-Moo (Lee Tae-Sung) appears in front of Yong Tae-Young. They are cousins. The following day, the two men board a yacht. While the boat is sailing, they have a small fight and Yong Tae-Yong falls into the water. His cousin doesn't attempt to save Yong Tae-Yong and actually attempts to hide evidence that he was there. He then jumps into the water and swims away. At this time, younger sister Park Ha receives a phone call that her family has been located in South Korea. Park Ha travels to South Korea and learns that her father has just passed away. At her father's funeral, Park Ha meets her stepmother and older step-sister Se-Na. Park Ha has no memory of how she was separated from her family. Park Ha settles down in Seoul. One night, when she comes back to her rooftop room, she discovers four men, in Korean traditional clothing, sitting in her room.


11. School 2013

    Seungri High School ranks as one of the worst of the 178 high schools in Seoul based on academic scores. Seungri High School is now busy preparing presentations for its new students. Class 2 is at the bottom of grade 2 at Seungri High. Nam-Soon (Lee Jong-Suk) is elected class president for grade 2, thanks to the support of Jung-Ho (Kwak Jung-Wook), who is a member of the school gang.

    Se-Chan (Daniel Choi) is the top Korean language teacher at a famous institute in Gangnam. In order to improve the student's scores at Seungri High School, the school hires Se-Chan. When Se-Chan appears at the school's opening presentation, Nam-Soon becomes embarrassed.


12. The King 2 Hearts

Set in a fictional present day where South Korea is governed under a constitutional monarchy, "The King 2hearts" tells the story of Prince Jae-Ha (Lee Seung-Gi) from South Korea and North Korean Special Force instructor Kim Hang-Ah (Ha Ji-Won) who become husband & wife through an arranged marriage.

In 1989, when the Berlin Wall collapses, a King and Crown Prince watch on TV, but the young Prince doesn't care about what is happening on the television. Prince Jae-Ha doesn't want even to become the king.

23 years later, Prince Jae-Ha takes military training. He isn't serious about anything, a playboy of sorts who looks forward to his discharge from the military. Meanwhile, the King (Lee Sung-Min) announces that military officers from South and North Korea will hold joint training sessions. The unified team will take part in the WOC (World Officers Contest).


13. To The Beautiful You

Kang Tae-Joon (Minho) is a gold medalist in the high jump, but he has been mired in a slump due to an injury. In order to help her idol, a girl named Koo Jae-Hee (Sulli) disguises herself as a boy and enrolls at the same all-male high school.

When Tae-Joon (Minho) is competing at the World Junior Competition, Jae-Hee (Sulli) watches him on TV in America and becomes very touched.

Despite her friends telling her otherwise, Jae-Hee cuts her long hair by herself. She then flies to South Korea, with a plan to stay with Tae-Joon who is now injured. Jae-Hee disguises herself as a boy and enrolls at the all-boys Genie Physical Education High School. On her first day at school, Jae-Hee goes up the stairs with her suitcase, but her suitcase bursts open and all her clothes fall out. A boy comes by and helps her pick up her stuff. Jae-Hee realizes that the boy helping her is none other than her idol Tae-Joon. In her excitement, Jae-Hee sits on her suitcase, which proceeds to slide down the stairs.

Jae-Hee gets to her first class and introduces herself. One of her classmates,  Jong-Min (Hwang Kwang-Hee), tells her that if she wants to become their classmate she will have to go pick up a ball that sits inside a doghouse located on campus. Jae-Hee goes to the doghouse and sees a warning sign about the dog. Nevertheless, the dog seems friendly to Jae-Hee and she goes inside to take out the ball. At that moment, Jae-Hee hears Tae-Joon voice and she hides in the doghouse. Tae-Joon starts to talk to the dog and tells the dog that he doesn't want to perform the high jump at tomorrow's commercial shooting. Tomorrow will be the first time Tae-Joon does the high jump after suffering from his injury. Jae-Hee comes out of the doghouse and asks Tae-Joon if he is ok after his injury. Tae-Joon becomes angry and leaves.

She goes back to the classroom and gives the ball to Jong-Min, who is very surprised. The dog is normally hostile to guys that come by. Eun-Gyeol (Lee Hyun-Woo), who is a soccer player, looks at her with a smile.

Later, Jae-Hee goes to her dorm room and learns that she is sharing her room with one other student. When she gets out of the shower, Jae-Hee sees her new roommate, who is Tae-Joon! Tae-Joon immediately kicks her out of the room, but with the help of Seung-Ri (Seo Jun-Young), the student dorm monitor, she is able to get back into the room.

The next day, students at Genie High School gather to play soccer. Tae-Joon tells Jae-Hee that if she makes a goal he will let her stay in his room. Jae-Hee tries hard to score a goal, but collides with Jong-Min and gets knocked out. Tae-Joon carries her to the school infirmary. Before she wakes up, Tae-Joon runs to the school gym where the high jump commercial will be filmed. Meanwhile, Tae-Hee wakes up and she knows that the school doctor knows that she is a girl.
