K-Drama Recommendation 2014

 

1. 3 Days

The South Korean President travels to a villa to enjoy his vacation. After three gunshots are fired, he disappears. His bodyguard Han Tae-Kyung (Park Yoo-Chun) then attempts to find the President. Han Tae-Kyung (Park Yoo-Chun) works as a presidential guard. He goes to the hospital to see his father who is a high-ranking government official. His father got into a car accident last night and is now in critical condition. Han Tae-Kyung only watches his father through a window for a short time before going back to work. Meanwhile, President Lee Dong-Whi (Son Hyun-Joo) is in his third year of service as the South Korean President. He received huge support during his first year, but his approval rating has declined ever since. A special prosecutor is now investigating President Lee Dong-Whi's finances prior to becoming the President. To cheer himself up, the President decides to make a visit to a traditional market.

    During the President's visit to the traditional market, Han Tae Kyung's phone keeps ringing. He feels that something might be wrong with his father. Then, a man throws white powder on the President and the bodyguards respond accordingly. After the incident, Han Tae-Kyung receives a text message that his father has passed away. Meanwhile, Han Tae-Kyung is reprimanded because the President was hit with the powder. He leaves his badge and gun behind and goes to his father's funeral. At the funeral, a woman talks to Han Tae-Kyung. She asks him if he has seen a white envelope among the things his father left behind. She also tells him that her father's car accident might have been premeditated murder. She gives him her name card. Her name is Yoon Bo-Won (Park Ha-Sun) and she is a police officer. Soon, Han Tae-Kyung hears from a dying man that "The President will die on March 5th". As Han Tae-Kyung attempts to enter the vacation villa where the President is staying, he is blocked by soldiers because Han Tae-Kyung doesn't have his badge. Three gunshots are then fired inside the President's villa.


2. Emergency Couple

Jin-Hee (Song Ji-Hyo) led a satisfying life as a dietitian. She then met medical school student Chang-Min (Choi Jin-Hyuk). Despite his wealthy family's strong opposition, Jin-Hee and Chang-Min decided to get married. Chang-Min's family is full of doctors. Chang-Min though gave up his medical internship and began working as a pharmaceutical salesman. Their marriage life was not happy. Chang-Min's family looked down on Jin-Hee and even Chang-Min seemed to change. Chang-Min began to think terribly of Jin-Hee and they finally divorced.

After their divorce, Jin-Hee became a medical student and now works as an intern. Chang-Min also graduated from medical school and begins to work as an intern. One day, they meet in the emergency room of a hospital where they will both work together.


3. God's Gift - 14 Days


    Soo-Hyun (Lee Bo-Young) travels back in time to bring her dead child back to life.

4. Healer

    Kim Moon-Ho (Yoo Ji-Tae) is a popular reporter at a major broadcasting company. One day, he learns the truth about a case that took place in the past. He intentionally approaches people who are related to the case and helps them. While doing so, he agonizes over the truth and beliefs. Meanwhile, with the help of Kim Moon-Ho, internet reporter Chae Young-Shin (Park Min-Young) and Seo Jung-Hoo (Ji Chang-Wook), known as "Healer," grow into real reporters. 


5. Hi! School - Love On

    High school students go through love and maturity as an angel becomes a human being to save a male high school student.


6. It's Alright, This Is Love

    Jang Jae-Yeol is a mystery writer and radio DJ. He suffers from an obsession. Ji Hae-Soo is going through her first year of fellowship in psychiatry at a University Hospital. She chose psychiatry because she doesn't want to perform surgeries. After she meets Jang Jae-Yeol, her life goes through big changes.


7. Marriage Not Dating

    A perfect man, Kong Ki-Tae (Yeon Woo-Jin), is forced to marry his family, but he doesn't marry. To make his family give up, he introduces a woman, Joo Jang-Mi (Han Groo), to them that they would never accept him.


8. Mimi

    28-year-old Min-Woo (Shim Chang-Min) is a webcomic writer. One day, he finds a memo on his desk calendar. With the memo, he begins to write a new webcomic “December 8”. The comic turns into an instant hit. As the webcomic becomes even more popular, Min-Woo feels pressure from work. He begins to suffer from severe headaches because of the pressure. Min-Woo decides to seek out his first love from high school.


9. Mr. Baek

    Choi Go-Bong (Shin Ha-Kyun) is a man in his 70's old and he runs a large corporation. One day, he becomes a man in his 30s by accident and feels love for the first time in his life. 


10. Pinnochio 

As a child, Ha-Myeong (Lee Jong-Suk) grew up in a family with his firefighter father, mother, and older brother. Ha-Myeong and his older brother (Yun Kyun-Sang) both possess the higher-than-normal intellect and are proud of their father. A fire at a waste facility though destroys his family. His mother dies a short time later and Ha-Myeong ends up being scooped out of the ocean by an unknown man (Byun Hee-Bong).

    The man that pulls Ha-Myeong out of the ocean is the grandfather of In-Ha (Park Shin-Hye). In-Ha's grandfather believes Ha-Myeong is his eldest son Dal-Po, who died 30 years ago. Ha-Myeong is then adopted by In-Ha's grandfather and his name is changed to Dal-Po. In-Ha and Dal-Po now live together as uncles and nieces, although they are in the same age range. In-Ha has a Pinocchio Syndrome. Whenever she lies she gets the hiccups. In-Ha and Dal-Po get along well until Dal-Po learns that In-Ha's mother (Jin Kyung) is the reporter that covered the waste facility fire that destroyed his family. Dal-Po tries to distance himself from In-Ha, but he also develops feelings for her.

    Years later, Dal-Po and In-Ha's family are now living in Seoul. In-Ha attempts to become a reporter like her mother. In-Ha meets her mother for the first time in years at a job interview for MSC Broadcasting Station. Her mother is the person giving her the job interview. In-Ha though fails the job interview. Her mother rejects her because of her Pinocchio Syndrome. Dal-Po is now driving a taxi to support their family. One day, Dal-Po meets In-Ha's mother and decides to become a reporter.


11. Plus Nine Boys

    The drama follows the lives of a group of males whose ages are 9 years old, 19 years old, 29 years old, and 39 years old.


12. You're All Surrounded


    "You're All Surrounded" follows 4 twenty-something-year-old rookie detectives at a police station in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea. The 4 rookie detectives Eun Dae-Koo (Lee Seung-Gi), Eo Soo-Sun (Go Ara), Park Tae-Il (Ahn Jae-Hyeon), and Ji Kook (Park Jung-Min) arrive at the Gangnam Police Station for their first day of work. None of the rookie detectives dreamed of becoming a detective. They then meet Seo Pan-Seok (Cha Seung-Won) for the first time. Seo Pan-Seok is the Chief Investigator for the #3 team. Meanwhile, Eun Dae-Koo recognizes Seo Pan-Seok. He hasn't forgotten him in 11 years.
