K-Drama Recommendation 2016

 

1. Another Miss Oh

Oh Hae-Young (Seo Hyun-Jin) is dumped by Han Tae-Jin (Lee Jae-Yoon) on the day before their wedding. She is unable, to tell the truth about what happened and lies to others about what happened. She works as an assistant manager for a company's restaurant division. She pretends that nothing happened.

Meanwhile, Park Do-Kyung (Eric) is a popular sound engineer. One year ago, he was supposed to marry Oh Hae-Young (Jeon Hye-Bin), but she did not appear at their wedding. He became desperate. Later, he hears from his friend Lee Jin-Sang (Kim Ji-Suk) that Oh Hae-Young is about to marry Han Tae-Jin. Park Do-Kyung gets drunk and places her fiancé in a difficult predicament. Park Do-Kyung is unaware that the fiancé is about to marry another woman named Oh Hae-Young. The fiancé is soon imprisoned and right before his imprisonment, he lies to Oh Hae-Young. He tells her that he does not love her anymore, but he also vows to take revenge on Park Do-Kyung. For his part, Park Do-Kyung soon has visions of a woman he has never met. He soon realizes the woman is another Oh Hae-Young.


2. Beautiful Gong Shim

    A love story of two sisters and two men. The older sister has everything, including a beautiful appearance, and the younger sister only has a warm heart. One of the men lives on a rooftop apartment and the other man comes from a wealthy family.


3. Beautiful Mind

    Lee Young-O (Jang Hyuk) is an excellent neurosurgeon with zero sympathies. One day, he becomes involved in bizarre patient deaths. He also falls in love and recovers his humanity.


4. Bring it on, Ghost / Let's Fight Ghost

    Hyun-Ji (Kim So-Hyun) studied for most of her life before she died at the age of 19. She is now a ghost and has wandered around the world for several years. Hyun-Ji then meets exorcist Park Bong-Pal (TaecYeon). Hyun-Ji and Bong-Pal listen to various stories from ghosts and send them to the other world.


5. Cheese in the Trap

    The Drama depicts the delicate relationship between female university student Hong Seol (Kim Go-Eun) and her senior Yoo Jung (Park Hae-Jin). Hong-Seol works part-time due to her family's poor background. Yoo Jung is good-looking, gets good grades, is athletic, and has a kind personality, but he has a dark side.


6. Cinderella and the Four Knights

Eun Ha-Won (Park So-Dam) is in the third grade of high school. She hopes to become a teacher which her late mother always wished for (her mother died in a car accident). Ha-Won has a bright personality and a strong set of morals, but she is unhappy at home. She's unattached from her father, stepmother, and step-sister and also mistreated. Ha-Won works various part-time jobs to pay for her upcoming university tuition fees. She knows she needs to make more money to pay for the storage of her mother's ashes at the cemetery. Her mother's ashes were recently removed because of unpaid bills.

Meanwhile, Ji-Woon (Jung Il-Woo), Hyun-Min (Ahn Jae-Hyeon), and Seo-Woo (Lee Jung-Shin) are spoiled cousins and live together in the mansion Sky House. With their different personalities - Ji-Woon is a tough guy, Hyun-Min is a playboy and Seo-Woo is a musician - they don't like each other at all. Additionally, Ji-Woon likes Hye-Ji (Son Na-Eun) who likes Hyun-Min. One day, their grandfather (Kim Yong-Geon) orders his 3 grandsons to attend his 5th wedding ceremony. Hyun-Min doesn't want to go, but he hires Ha-Won for 3 hours and takes her to his grandfather's wedding ceremony. His plan is to upstage his grandfather's wedding ceremony with the surprise appearance of Ha-Won. There, the grandfather witnesses Ha-Won's no-nonsense attitude towards Hyun-Min and decides to hire her as a live-in butler at the Sky House. He hopes she is able to change the ways of his grandsons.


7. Descendants of the Sun

Shi-Jin (Song Joong-Ki) is the captain of the special forces. He catches a motorcycle thief with Sergeant Major Dae-Young (Jin Goo). The thief is injured during his capture and is sent to the hospital. Dae-Young realizes his cell phone was stolen by the thief and goes to the hospital to retrieve cell phone.

In the emergency room, Shi-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon (Song Hye-Kyo) for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Shi-Jin is part of the thief's criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo (Kim Ji-Won). Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs, their dates don't go well. Shi-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague's privileged background. When Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realize how different they are. Shi-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives, and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes. Eight months later, Mo-Yeon rebuffs the sexual advances of hospital chairman Suk-Won (Tae In-Ho) and as retribution is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.


8. Doctors

    When Hye-Jung was young, her life was difficult. She was good at fighting but also studied well. Overcoming her tough situation, she is now a doctor.


9. Dr. Romantic

    Boo Yong-Joo was a famous surgeon with the nickname "Hand of God".  He suddenly disappeared and nobody knew exactly why.  Boo Young-Joo is now Teacher Kim and he calls himself the Romantic Doctor. He enjoys his life in seclusion.  Kang Dong-Joo became a doctor to win somebody over and Yoon Seo-Jung become a doctor to be recognized by somebody.  After they meet Teacher Kim, they learn about life values and comfort from love.


10. Entertainer

Shin Suk-Ho (Ji Sung) works for Top Entertainment Company as a director, but he is about to start his own company Mango. He will take with him the boy group Jackson who is bout to end their contract with Top Entertainment Company. Lee Joon-Suk (Jeon No-Min) is the CEO of Top Entertainment Company and he will not let Shin Suk-Ho start his own company. He orders Kim Joo-Han (Heo Joon-Seok) to create a dirty scheme. Due to the scheme, Suk-Ho gets locked up in prison for DUI and he loses the boy group Jackson to Top Entertainment Company. Without Jackson, Shin Suk-Ho's new company finds itself in a difficult situation. Suk-Ho goes to Busan to borrow money, but he gets humiliated. He becomes extremely frustrated by everything. At that time, he hears a private institute's promotional song. The song wakes him up and he walks over to the private institute to find out who sang the song.

In Busan, Ha-Neul (Kang Min-Hyuk) is a high school student. His older sister is Geu-Rin (Hyeri). They are each other's only family members as their parents died in a car accident. Geu-Rin takes time off from college to work part-time. Ha-Neul is then falsely accused of sexual harassment by his female friend and he is placed on probation by the court. Ha-Neul decides to not go to college and to not sing which he wanted to do so much. Ha-Neul is also the person who sang the private institute's promotional song. The next day, Suk-Ho finds out the identity of the singer. He follows Ha-Neul. Ha-Neul, going through dark times because of the sexual harassment claim, stands on the ledge of a building. At that time, Suk-Ho tells Ha-Neul "Die later. Now you will do what you want to do. Sing".


11. Goodbye Mr. Black

    Cha Ji-Won (Lee Jin-Uk) is a UDT officer of the Navy Special Operations Force. He is positive and has personal charm, but he falls into a desperate situation due to a friend's betrayal. He goes through numerous life-or-death situations. Cha Ji-Won then enters into a fake marriage with Swan (Moon Chae-Won) to hide his identity. Through the bright persona of Swan, Cha Ji-Won falls in love and regains his trust in others.


12. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God / Goblin

In ancient times, Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is an unbeatable general in wars, but the young King (Kim Min-Jae) is jealous of Kim Shin and kills him. Kim Shin becomes Dokkaebi (Goblin), possessing an immortal life. At first, he thinks that he is blessed, but he realizes that he is cursed.

Closer to the present day, Kim Shin has waited 900 years for a human bride to end his immortal life. One night, he saves a dying pregnant woman (Park Hee-Von) who is destined to die. Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-Wook) is unable to find the dead pregnant woman. The woman gives birth to a baby girl named Ji Eun-Tak (later played by Kim Go-Eun). 9 years later, Ji Eun-Tak lives with her mother and is able to see ghosts. One night, her mother suddenly dies. On that night, she meets the Grim Reaper. In the present day, Ji Eun-Tak is a high school student. She still sees ghosts and hears their whisper of “Dokkaebi’s bride.” She now lives with her aunt’s family, but she is mistreated by them. On her birthday, Ji Eun-Tak sits by the sea with a lighted birthday cake. At that time, Kim Shin suddenly appears behind her. Kim Shin does not know why, but he can hear her voice and appears in front of her against his will. Coincidentally, Kim Shin lives with the Grim Reaper in the same house. Now, Kim Shin appears in front of her against his will, whenever she turns off the lights. One day, Ji Eun-Tak tells him that he is Dokkaebi and she is his bride.


13. Hwarang

    A drama series depicts the story of Hwarang (literally "Flowering Knights") - an elite group of male youth during the Kingdom of Silla.


14. Jealousy Incarnate

    Depicts the fierce competition at a broadcasting station and the love between anchor Lee Hwa-Shin and weather caster Pyo Na-Ri.


15. Lucky Romance

Bo-Nui (Hwang Jung-Eum) works various part-time jobs to support herself and pay her younger sister, Bo-Ra (Kim Ji-Min), hospital bills. Her younger sister has been in a coma for the past 2 years because of a car accident. Bo-Ra is also Bo-Nui's only immediate family member as their parents died in a separate car accident. Bo-Nui is a firm believer in fortune tellers after an encounter when her younger sister was first hospitalized. At that time, Bo-Nui was standing right outside of the hospital and crying. A fortune teller (Kim Jong-Goo) came up to her. The fortune teller knew all about her situation without Bo-Nui saying anything. He told her that those around her were all hurt because of her fate. The fortune teller also told Bo-Nui that if she wanted to save her sister she must perform a specific ritual. After performing the ritual, Bo-Nui went back to the hospital and learned her sister has survived, but she is in a vegetative state.

Now, Bo-Ra's condition has worsened and the doctor tells Bo-Nui to give up hope for a recovery. Bo-Nui refuses to give up hope. She turns to the fortune teller for help. The fortune teller tells Bo-Nui that there's only one thing that can save her sister. Bo-Nui must have a one-night stand with a man born in 1986 - the year of the tiger. Meanwhile, Soo-Ho (Ryoo Joon-Yeol) is the CEO of Zeze Game Company. He is smart, but also arrogant. On the day he is to give a presentation for a new game, he continually bumps into Bo-Nui in unpleasant ways. Soo-Ho's presentation turns into a complete failure due to trauma from his childhood past and bad code intentionally placed into the game. Later, Soo-Ho again sees Bo-Nui out in the public, but she is drunk. Bo-Nui grabs Soo-Ho and repeatedly asks him if he was born in the year of the tiger. Soo-Ho tells her that he was born in 1986 - the year of the tiger.


16. Madame Antoine: The Love Therapist

    Ko Hye-Rim (Han Ye-Seul) is a famous fortune-teller. She is known as "Madame Antoine" and insists that she is spiritually connected to Marie Antoinette, but that part is a lie. She is able to see through people's stories due to her intelligence and keen sense. She dreams of having love in a romantic film. Ko Hye-Rim then takes part in a psychological test project conducted by psychotherapist Choi Soo-Hyun (Sung Joon). His goal is to prove that true love does not exist. Coincidentally, the name of his psychological treatment center is Madame Antoine.


17. Marriage Contract

Ji-Hoon (Lee Seo-Jin) has a cynical personality due to his family background. Even though he comes from a rich family, his mother had an affair with a married man and they had Ji-Hoon. From a young age, he became separated from his mother and began to live with his father's family. One day, he learns that his mother has liver disease and she doesn't have much time left to live. Her only hope is to get a liver transplant. Ji-Hoon becomes desperate. At that time, he meets Hye-Soo (Uee) and her daughter Eun-Sung (Shin Rin-Ah).

Hye-Soo has lived alone with her daughter Eun-Sung after her husband's death. She is constantly hounded by loan sharks due to her late husband's debt. Hye-Soo begins to work at the restaurant run by Ji-Hoon. She learns that she has a brain tumor and she needs money for her daughter after she passes away. Hye-Soo overhears from Ji-Hoon that he is looking for a liver donor for his mother. To make it happen legally, Ji-Hoon plans to marry the donor. Hye-Soo insists to Ji-Hoon that she wants to be the donor. Ji-Hoon, unaware of Hye-Soo's brain tumor, accepts her offer and they prepare a marriage contract.


18. Moorim School

    The Moorim School isn't focused solely on high academic scores. The school teaches its students virtues including honesty, faith, sacrifice, and communication. The teachers and students at the school come from different countries and each has their own stories.


19. One More Happy Ending

    Han Mi-Mo (Jang Na-Ra), Baek Da-Jung (Yoo Da-In), Go Dong-Mi (Yoo In-Na), and Hong Ae-Ran (Seo In-Young) were once members of the idol group “Angels". Han Mi-Mo now works as a rep for a remarriage consulting business. She is also divorced. Her former bandmate Baek Da-Jung is also a rep at the same company. She married a rich man, but her marriage is on the rocks. Go Dong-Mi is now an elementary school teacher. She is single and feels lonely. Hong Ae-Ran is a representative of an internet shopping mall. The women are still friends. Song Soo-Hyuk (Jung Kyoung-Ho) is a reporter and a single father. He has a friend, Goo Hae-Joon (Kwon Yool), who is a doctor and single. Song Soo-Hyuk and Goo Hae-Joon become involved with the women.


20. Page Turner

    Yoo-Seul (Kim So-Hyun) is a student at an art high school. She is a talented pianist who won various contests, but she is driven by her mother. Yoo Seul's mother wanted to become a pianist when she was younger. One day, Yoo-Seul has an accident. Yoo-Seul may never play the piano again because of the accident. With the help of her friend Cha-Sik and Yoo-Seul's rival Jin-Mok, Yoo-Seul begins to live a new life.


21. Squad 38

    The task force chief of Seoul City Hall and a con man work together to collect taxes from those who avoid paying large amounts.


22. The Legend of the Blue Sea

Sometime during August 1598, newly appointed governor Dam Ryung (Lee Min-Ho) stays for a night at an inn run by Mr. Yang (Sung Dong-Il). During that evening, Mr. Yang shows Dam Ryung a captured mermaid named Sim Chung (Gianna Jun). Later that night, Dam Ryung releases her into the ocean and, before she swims away, Sim Chung reaches out her hand to Dam Ryung which he briefly holds.

In the present day, Joon-Jae (Lee Min-Ho) is a smooth-talking conman with magician-like abilities. He works with Nam-Doo (Lee Hee-Jun) and Tae-O (Shin Won-Ho). For their next score, Joon-Jae impersonates a prosecutor and swindles a large amount of money from a wealthy suspect's mother. Joon-Jae then travels abroad and stays at an oceanside resort. Meanwhile, Sim Chung is swept up in a tidal wave and washed ashore near the oceanside resort. She sees Joon-Jae.


23. Uncontrollably Fond

    When Shin Joon-Young (Kim Woo-Bin) and No Eul (Bae Suzy) were children, they were separated and became heartbroken.  As adults, they meet again. Shin Joon-Young is now a top actor and singer. He is intelligent and attractive. No Eul is the PD of documentaries. She values money over justice and kisses up to those with more power than her.


24. W: Two Worlds Apart

    A romance takes place between Kang Chul (Lee Jong-Suk), who is super rich and exists in the webtoon “W",  and Oh Yeon-Joo (Han Hyo-Joo) who is a surgeon in the real world.


25. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo

    Kim Bok-Joo (Lee Sung-Kyung) is a promising collegiate female weightlifter. Her father runs a small chicken restaurant and her uncle wants to become an actor. She has a bright personality and a strong sense of justice. Kim Bok-Joo and her friends on the female weightlifting team are not popular with the guys and they don't have boyfriends. The weightlifting team and the rhythmic gymnastic team also don't get along at all.

    Meanwhile, Jung Joon-Hyung (Nam Joo-Hyuk) is a collegiate swimmer plagued with numerous false start disqualifications. He is 21 years old and has a free spirit. His uncle and aunt raised him along with his cousin Jung Jae-Yi (Lee Jae-Yoon). One day on campus, Kim Bok-Joo bumps into Jung Joon-Hyung while he is riding his bicycle. Her face looks familiar to Jung Joon-Hyung. After he leaves, Kim Bok-Joo picks up a handkerchief left behind by Jung Joon-Hyung. The handkerchief is very important to him and he begins looking for it.

    Later, Kim Bok-Joo cleans and irons the handkerchief. She goes to the school's swimming pool and gives back his handkerchief, but he explodes with anger when he sees that she cleaned it. Kim Bok-Joo then falls into the swimming pool and Jung Joon-Hyung jumps into the pool to save her. At that moment, Kim Bok-Joo and Jung Joon-Hyung realize that they have seen each other before. When they were both children, Kim Bok-Joo saved Jung Joon Hyung's life by catching him before he fell to the ground. Kim Bok-Joo and Jung Joon Hyung's relationship now begins.
